Original breeds

For 10 years, La Ferme de l’Aurochs has specialized in rearing primitive species of cattle such as the American bison, the reconstituted Aurochs and Highland cattle, chosen for their hardiness and strength.

Rearing of the livestock

These species are reared in an integrated non-housed system, in the heart of a conservation area, where they contribute to the preservation of the habitat of the Hérisson valley, a classified environmental protection site (with certain plots being managed by the Franche Comté sites conservation agency).

La Ferme de l’Aurochs subscribes to the quality charter for livestock rearing introduced by BISONS DE FRANCE, (the association of bison breeders).

The same rearing conditions apply for the other species, including:

• The distribution of silage is prohibited,
• Feed supplements are strictly of plant origin,
• The animals are extensively reared in an integrated non-housed system, in semi-freedom.

The meat

The farm animals are naturally subject to the compulsory prophylaxis of traditional farms, and we comply strictly with animal traceability requirements and health legislation.

The genetic characteristics of the species and their feed combine to produce meat which is rich in protein and low in fat.
