An animal set to conquer the East!

Today, the American Bison once more incarnates strength, power and freedom. A legendary animal of the American West, it lived in migratory herds of hundreds of thousands of cattle. Before the arrival of the white man in America, its population stood at an estimated 60 million heads. Despite this, it had a close brush with extinction, with only 50 000 bison remaining in 1900 (Buffalo Bill boasted that he could kill 48 in a minute!). Animal husbandry has rescued it from oblivion. The bison’s hardiness equip it for grazing on lands of low agricultural value. Its genetic characteristics and rearing method (integrated non-housed system, fed exclusively on grass and hay) combine to produce a refined-tasting meat that is high in protein and low in fat. It is even sold as a health-food in the States!

Don’t be fooled by the bison’s placid air: it can run at 50 km per hour and jump up to 1.8 metres high!
